COACHING FROM THE GROUND UP

Coaching & Training Philosophy

"Preserve the horse’s confidence and well being through patient training. Be effective in teaching skills, and coaching towards independent riders and horse trainers. Create a positive working environment.”
Sonja Seyfort
National Coaching Certificate Program (NCCP), Level 3 Theory

About Sonja Seyfort

Born and raised in Victoria, Sonja has 27 years experience coaching and training at several of the stables in Victoria. “I feel fortunate to have worked within the horse community on Lower Vancouver Island for such a long period of time. It has provided me with many unique opportunities of working relationships with horses, riders, coaches, and stables over the years.”

Formerly Sonja has successfully competed in the Hunters in the Pacific Northwest. Students continue that competitive enthusiasm and success in both the Hunters & Jumpers on Vancouver Island, at Southlands, Milner Downs, Thunderbird, and Arizona. “It is very exciting watching the horses & riders take the skills we have been developing at home and step into the competition ring.”

Sonja continually studies coaching concepts through Canada’s National Coaching Certificate Program (NCCP), the International Coaching School, and recently at the University of Calgary Decision Training, the New Approach to Coaching. “Stepping back into a classroom learning environment was a huge personal step for me. The Professors have been inspiring to say the least. I am in awe listening to the extraordinary stories from coaches of other sports talk about the challenges and successes that they & their athletes have experienced.”

Many thanks to friends, clients, and coaches that have encouraged and contributed to this website! A special thank you to Diana Lewall for your continued support as a friend and colleague.
